The Carbon Zero Youth Initiative, Inc. (CZYI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that engages youth in sustainability through educational resources and community outreach programs. Key focus areas include sustainable materials, circularity, waste management, green building, and related career pathways.
Founded in 2023, the CZYI builds on lessons learned from a Girl Scout troop's advocacy project (see our story), highlighting the importance of engaging youth in the sustainability of materials and the built environment.
The CZYI aims to support public outreach efforts and empower professionals working towards more sustainable materials and a better built environment to share their work and inspire youth in their communities.
Guided by "Buildy Green" a friendly green building character, the CZYI's outreach tools include a just-released story, games, and activities. The CZYI's resources are designed to be accessible, heartwarming, and fun for youth at home, in classrooms, and at educational events and programs.
As part of its mission, the CZYI offers printable materials for ready download by educators and individuals.
